About

You know, I had a whole thing written up in my head for this about me page, but now that I’m sitting down to write it I got nothin’. I’m not sure that’s a bad thing.

So how’s about a good ol’ FAQ? (Last updated in September 2006. Although I kept outdated questions for your viewing pleasure.)

What’s your name?
Nicole Wilkins, although most everyone who’s known me outside of work in the last 10 years calls me Cola most of the time.

How old are you?
My birthday’s 22 October, 1978. You do the math.

What do you do?
Well, I’m an out of work software programmer. Mostly I take photos, bake bread, and watch the McLaughlin Group.

Where do you live?
Berkeley, CA for now. On September 15, 2005 I’m moving to Paris, France. Starting in Sepetmeber 2006, I’m living in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Paris? Why Paris?
My girlfriend is moving there for school. We’ll be gone a year. Hopefully I’ll be back in Berkeley after that.

Do you know any French?
I took it for 3 years in HS, which was 10 years ago. So no.

What are you going to do in France?
Same thing I do here, only with more French. Oh, and travel.

Ok, so what’s the deal with living in The Hague?
Ok. So just replace the answers about living in Paris and replace “Paris” with “The Hague” and you’ll get a rough idea of what’s what. Except that I don’t know any Dutch at all.

So moving on, what’s the deal with the domain name?
It’s a joke, but I think I’m the only one who thinks it’s funny. Short story – about a year ago I had a series of friends independently start calling me a hipster for reasons that I’m still unclear on, but mostly just to tease me about my shoes. Or something. One of said friends stuck a “resident hipster” label on my name tag at work. So yeah. That’s the story. I’m a dork. Clearly.

  • Hi Cola! This is your Aunt Jan (or Tia Juana if you’re still in Spain). I’m really enjoying traveling vicariously with you (Europe on $0 a Day). The photos are interesting and you have quite an eye (maybe even two of them). More pictures (with clever captions, of course) would be nice. Fare well, Love TJ
